Movie Of My Life Soundtrack Tag

Hey, I hope you're having a great day, this is just a little post of a tag I saw on tumblr (not sure what it's actually called), which I've done before (a long time ago) and since it was on my dashboard again, I figured why not do it again and share my results with you. So here they are:
  • Opening credits: Perfect Two- Auburn
  • Waking up: Do You Wanna Build A Snowman- Frozen
  • Fight song: One Heart/A Million Voices- New Empire
  • Breaking Up Song: The Fault In Our Stars- Troye Sivan
  • Getting back together: Tonight (We Live Forever) Refix- George and Jaymi (Union J)
  • Wedding: Flaws- Bastille
  • Birth of child: Everything Has Changed- Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran
  • Death scene: Central Park- Union J
  • Final battle: Photograph- Ed Sheeran
  • Funeral song: The Weight- Shawn Mendes
  • End credits: Don't Wake Me Up- Bethan Leadley

Some of these seem odd for the situation at first but then thinking about it, I could imagine them being played in the soundtrack to the movie of my life.
Why not try it yourself? I'd love to see some of your responses in the comments below.
To do this tag, just put your iPod/phone or whatever else on shuffle and simply write your results next to the appropriate line.

Love, Steph x

My Favourite Books

Being a massive bookworm, I love finding a book that I can really sink my teeth into and enjoy from cover to cover. Over the years, I have read some amazing books across a variety of genres. This post features four of my favourite books that I would wholeheartedly recommend to any book lover!

Cruel Summer by James Dawson

About: A group of friends spend a summer holiday together in a villa, a year after their friend's suicide. When an unexpected guest arrives claiming she possesses evidence that the suicide was in fact murder, things take a turn for the worse and she soon ends up dead. The friends know that the killer has to be one of them, but who?

Verdict: This book had me from the moment I read the synopsis before the book came on sale. I love mysteries and this book did not disappoint. James Dawson is my favourite author in terms of writing because his writing in his books is exceptional, and nothing else I've read has came close to his vivid style, which grips the reader and truly transports them to another world. I could not put this book down and thoroughly enjoyed the plot, characters and style of the book. It kept me guessing until the end and completely took me by surprise. (I won't say anymore about that in case any of you decide to read it, which I 100% encourage you to do).

Genre: Drama, Mystery, Young Adult, Thriller, Crime

You can find Cruel Summer here or visit James Dawson's website here

Say Her Name by James Dawson

About: A Halloween dare at a boarding school results in Bobbie, Naya and Caine summoning the legendary ghost 'Bloody Mary' by repeating her name five times in front of a candlelit mirror at midnight. The characters aren't surprised when nothing happens... until the next morning when Bobbie finds a message on the mirror reading 'five days'. Things start to get stranger and the three teens soon realise that Mary had indeed been summoned that night, leaving them with only five days before Mary comes for them like the many before.

Verdict: I had high expectations of this book but I didn't think it could be anywhere near as good as Cruel Summer... I was wrong. This book is phenomenal! Based on a well known horror figure (Bloody Mary), Dawson presents his own spin on the story, showing the effect and emotion through out. It sent shivers down my spine reading it and left me feeling haunted, which may not seem like a good thing, but for this particular style, is a wonderful thing. A book to avoid if you scare easily, and possibly to avoid reading at night but if you love a good horror or just a well written book, definitely check this out.

Genre: Horror, Thriller, Young Adult, Drama, (Elements of witty humor)

You can find the Say Her Name here or visit James Dawson's website here

Revived by Cat Patrick

About: 'Daisy Appleby was a little girl when she became one of the first subjects in a covert program that tests a drug called Revive. Now fifteen, Daisy has died and been Revived five times.
Each death means a new name, a new city, and a new identity. The only constant in Daisy’s life is constant change. Then she meets Matt and Audrey McKean, charismatic siblings who quickly become her first real friends. But if Daisy’s ever going to have a normal life and lasting relationships, she needs to escape from an experiment that’s much larger—and more sinister—than she ever imagined.'- Cat Patrick

Verdict: Cat Patrick is another of my favourite authors, who writes very well and produces incredible stories. Revived is my favourite book of the three I have read but I do love them all. The plot is very intriguing and mesmerising by it's mysterious yet emotional storyline. I've read this book a couple of times and each time I read it, like with any books by Cat Patrick, it doesn't take me long to finish based on the fact that I simply can't put it down. It's intense drama keeps me hooked and makes me want to just get to the end, even when I know the plot.

Genre: Young Adult, Drama, Romance, Thriller, Mystery

You can find Revived here or visit Cat Patrick's website here

Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

About: 'The heroine, Emma, is sitting on a turbulent plane. She's always been a very nervous flyer and really thinks that this could be her last moment. So, naturally enough, she starts telling the man sitting next to her - quite a gorgeous American, but she's too frightened to notice - all her innermost secrets. How she lies about her size. How she's not sure if she has a G-spot, and whether her boyfriend could find it anyway. How the coffee at work is horrible… how she once threw a troublesome client file in the bin... If ever there was a bare soul, it's hers. She survives the flight, of course, and the next morning the famous founding boss of the mega corporation she works for is coming to look at the UK branch. As he walks around, Emma looks up and realises...
It's the man from the plane. And he recognizes her. And it’s soon clear that he remembers everything she said.
What will he do with her secrets? He knows them all - but she doesn't know a single one of his. Or... does she?'- Sophie Kinsella

Verdict: As I mentioned in a previous post (Haul (part one)), I love this book. This books is a very different genre to the other books in my favourites, although it does have an air of mystery about it, it's primarily a romantic comedy. The main character is portrayed perfectly, in a way that we can empathise and relate to the main character. This is one of the few books that really makes me laugh out loud, I find the wit and humour really appeals to my own sense of humour and provides me with great amusement. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a laugh or just a joyful experience from a book.

Genre: Romantic comedy

I hope you enjoyed reading a brief synopsis and review of some of my favourite books and that you've maybe found something new to read. If anyone has any book suggestions, I'd love to hear them, just let me know in the comments below or via any of my social media links.

11. Where do you see yourself in five years time?
If you'd have asked me this a week ago, I would have said working at a magazine company or completing my final year of the International Media and Communications course at Nottingham University but now I'm not so sure, I'd love to do something in the writing business and a course related to that at university but at the moment I'm a bit confused by the whole university decision thing and I'm struggling to make up my mind and find a balance between what I will enjoy and what will help me in the future. So at the moment, I don't really know but I would imagine either in my last year of university or have finished and be doing a job in the writing or journalism industry.

Rituals Diwali Delight Review

As I promised in my 'What I got for Christmas' post (which seems like ages ago now), here is my review (and back story) of the Rituals Diwali Delight Foaming Shower Gel Sensation.

I first sampled this when I was shopping in Barcelona; I went into Rituals with a friend looking to buy something, so I was looking around a bit but not taking a lot in. While I was waiting for my friend to buy a product a shop assistant asked if I wanted to try a product and I figured why not? As soon as I rubbed it into my hands, I loved the smell and the feel of it but didn't really think much of it at the time. For the rest of the day, every time I moved my hands fairly near my face, I could smell the amazing scent and often ended up just smelling my hands (I know it must of looked weird but it just smelt so good). Although I loved the smell, I more or less just forgot about it.

Skip forward a month or so, I found myself in Rituals again, this time with my mum as we were Christmas shopping. Whilst in the shop, I remembered the day in Barcelona and decided to look at all the red products (as that's all I could remember about it) to see if I recognised the name. Again, a shop assistant asked if I wanted to sample a product; there were two red shower gels and I couldn't think which one it was so just picked one and although it smelt nice, I was disappointed that it wasn't the scent. So to see if it was the other one, my mum sampled that one and as soon as she put it on her skin, the smell hit me and I knew it was the one. Every time she moved her hands, I could smell it. Knowing how much I loved it, my mum offered to buy it me and put it away for Christmas.

So that's how I came to find and own the product.

As I've said before, I'm not great at describing smells but I will do my best to sum up the product: It's fragrance consists of Patchouli and Cardamom, which in my opinion makes it smell quite sweet and fresh but sophisticated at the same time, it's very moisturising and soft on your skin, leaving it feeling smooth, and the scent lasts for hours afterwards.

I can honestly say that this scent is one of, if not my favourite, fragrances, I love to smell it even when I'm not using it, and it can last with me for a while. This has to be one of my favourite bath and shower products (and I like a lot of them) that I will definitely be re-purchasing. It's not the cheapest shower gel but in my opinion, it is definitely worth the money.

2015 New Year Sales Haul (part two)

Following my latest blog post, here is the second part, featuring the clothes and shoes I bought recently. All of the clothes I purchased were from New Look (online), and were in the sale. I had planned to do a photo shoot of myself wearing the clothes so you could see them better but unfortunately I haven't had chance to, so sorry that the pictures aren't of the best quality or the most accurate representation. Anyway, here goes with the second half...

Tall Khaki Parka: I love this coat, it's light enough to make it suitable for Spring, but it's also warm enough to wear now. The colour means it goes with almost anything and looks great. It has a hood, a crosshatch pattern down the sleeves and drawstrings in the middle to adjust the shape of the coat. I also thought this would go nicely with some of the other things I purchased. I bought this for £15 down from £39.99.

You can find it here

Dark Red Skater Mini Skirt: I love skater skirts and dresses as you will see from the purchases I made which other than the coat, are all skater style. At one time, I had four different skater skirts of different colours and styles and I don't know how many dresses, but two of these got ruined (I can't remember how). Naturally, I had to get a couple more to replace them. I loved the colour of this skirt which is a colour I didn't own before (I have lots of red but not dark red). I see this as more of a Winter colour but I've still got some time to wear it in Winter and, depending on what I wear it with, I think this could still be great to wear in Spring. I bought this for £5 down from £9.99.

You can find it here

Black Scuba Ring Belt Skater Skirt: The second skater skirt I bought was this black one with a Scuba ring belt. Included in the skirts that got ruined, one was my black one. Given that this was only £6 down from £14.99, I figured it was time to get a new black one, which will go with so many different things.

You can find it here

Pale Blue Acid Wash Skater Dress: I wasn't sure about this dress when I saw it on the website, but it looked a great dress for Spring so I figured why not? When I tried all of my purchases on, I loved this one the most. I think this fit my shape best (even though they are all similar styles), and just looked great for now with leggings or tights, or great for Spring and Summer. I can see this being a good dress for any holidays I go on this year, and I'm sure I will get plenty of wear out of it. I bought this for £15 down from £22.99.

You can find it here (now down to £12)

Black Lightweight Houndstooth Skater Dress: This was my favourite purchase after seeing them online and although I liked it once it was delivered and I had tried them on, it was not my favourite. Even so, I think this dress is really cute and great for a day out in Spring or now, and I do really love the pattern. I bought this for £12 down from £22.99.

You can find it here

Heeled Chelsea Ankle Boots: I was a bit reluctant about whether I should keep these shoes because they are quite high for me, as I'm very tall, so don't usually wear heels or if I do, they are small heels but, I loved the way they looked too much not to keep them. They weren't very expensive (£24.99) but they seem as though they'll last. I also thought they'd go very nicely with some of my other purchases, particularly the two dresses. I don't think I will wear them very often but I think when I do, they'll look great.

You can find them here

So that completes the list of things I bought in the January sales this year, I hope you managed to find some great bargains yourself.

2015 New Year Sales Haul (part one)

I am quite a shopaholic, particularly when I can find bargains, hence why I love the after Christmas/January sales, which is a perfect time to treat yourself to anything you wanted but didn't get for Christmas, which you can usually get at a discounted price. This year, I bought some of these things in the store and other products I bought online, ranging from make up, to books, to clothing and several things in between. This is the first part of the haul...

W7 In The Buff: At the moment, on a day to day basis, I use the shades 'dope' and 'toxic' from the Vice 2 palette by Urban Decay (which I got as a present last year) but these are starting to run out and while I like the other shades, I'm not very brave with eye shadow so tend to stick to the more natural colours. When I saw this palette at a price of £4.99 I figured I should try it out since I really liked the colours. I've only tried this a couple of times but the colours do look very nice on and last the whole day. The only negative I would say about this is that the brush isn't the best, it's a bit too rigid so applying the eye shadow can be quite difficult. (I use a different brush). If anyone's looking for a cheap alternative to a naked palette, I would definitely recommend this. It's quite clearly taken the idea from urban decay, by the same style casing and very similar shades, and it may not be of the same quality, but for the price, it's definitely worth it.

You can find this product for £3.35 here

Collection Eyebrow Kit: I have quite light colouredeyebrows and as a result, I struggle to find a product to fill them in, as they are often too dark or just don't suite my hair and face. When I saw this, I thought it looked practical, as there were three colours to choose from which could be mixed to make the ideal colour. Again, I've only tried this product a couple of times but the colour (I blend the two lighter colours) and the clear brow mascara seem to be the best I've tried so far, and the style of the product makes it easy to carry around and use on the go or at home.

You can find this product for £3.99 here

London Sights Weekender Bag: This bag seemed perfect for college, the size makes it great for my folders which I struggle to fit in any other bag I've bought, and the print is cute and fun, making it a great statement accessory. It has handles as well as a removable shoulder strap, making it suitable for different people depending on their preferences, or easy to switch about based on the need for the bag each day. I got this bag in the sale at Accessorize for £19.50 down from £39.

You can find this product for £19.50 here

Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella: A great lighthearted romantic comedy. I borrowed this book from a friend a few years ago and it has since been one of my favourites, so I decided to buy it for myself and read it again. Sophie Kinsella wrote this book very well, portraying the main character perfectly. It's rare that I find a book that really makes me laugh out loud but this is one of the few. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a fairly easy read with a great plot.

You can find this book for £6.39 here

Dead Silent by Sharon Jones: I haven't read this book yet, so I can't give a very detailed comment, but it is the sequel to Dead Jealous which I have read and really enjoyed. These are thriller books, great for anyone who loves a good mystery.

You find this book for £5.99 here

I hope you've enjoyed seeing some of the things I bought, the second part will be coming soon. I also hope you managed to find some great bargains in the sale.

This Girl Can

As part of my 2015 personal aim to put myself first and work on improving my own health and happiness, I want to start doing more exercise, not necessarily to get fitter (which I would also like to do) but as a means of escape, to shut down my thoughts for a bit and take a break, releasing some energy.

Last month, I went to the gym for the first time in a long time and I surprisingly enjoyed it. I have always been self conscious and I hate the idea of exercising in front of people, even friends and family so, I thought I would hate every minute of it and would spend the whole time worrying about the other people in the room. At first, I did hate it, I was miserable going in, dreading the actual thing but once I got about five minutes into it, I started to enjoy it and surprised myself at what I was capable of and at the fact that I could just block out the other people. When I finished each section and was walking over to the next, I did feel very self conscious but the actual activities, I did not.

Hopefully with time I will be able to do it, without feeling so self conscious at all, and eventually, I'd like to do more different things, like different classes.

I saw Louise's (sprinkleofglitter) video on the campaign 'This Girl Can' (you can find it here), and I found it so relatable and quite reassuring to know that I'm not the only one who worries about exercising in front of other people. It also made me feel a little bit more confident about exercising which I think will help me going into 2015 and hopefully help to improve my own personal confidence.

I hope you have a great year.

Hello 2015

Happy New Year!

I have a feeling this year will be good but quite a difficult one for me for several reasons. There are some personal reasons that I'm not going to get into, there's the shear amount of work and pressure at college to pass my A levels, and there is my personal aim this year which is to start putting myself first and doing more things to improve my health and happiness and less things to damage it. I'm not calling it a new years resolution because I don't want it to just be something I do in the new year, it is an aim because I know it will take time and, once I achieve it, I want to keep it.

I have always been someone who puts other people first, that's not to say I never put myself first, but I rarely do. I spend to much time trying to please other people, that I forget to look after myself and to do what makes me happy. There have been numerous times when I've done something that I know will make me miserable and I dread for days before, but I do it anyway to make others happy. I like to make other people happy, but if it compromises my own happiness then I don't think I should be doing it. That's not to say that I will always put myself first, and never do anything to please other people, it just means, I'm going to make more of an effort to put myself first more often.

We often refuse to let go of a relationship (whatever kind) because it's familiar, you've been close for so long that you want it to last forever, but sometimes relationships fizzle out or become toxic and if you're feeling sad, angry or any other negative emotion more than you feel happy or positive, then maybe it's time to let go. For a while now, there are certain relationships that I know make me miserable, but I struggle to let go of them because I always imagined they'd last forever. In reality, I think I miss the old person and the old memories rather than the present ones. In my head, I know it's time to let go, to move on to new relationships with new people but, I don't know how. That's why part of my aim this year is to find a way to let go of these relationships, and to let go of the people that make me feel miserable. To let go of the one sided friendships, and the people who only talk to me when they want something or the people who I've been there for through thick and thin but have failed to support me when I need it most.

Sorry this wasn't a happy post for a 'happy new year' but I wanted to get this off my chest and have it in writing for myself to look back on and remember well into 2015 and encourage me to stick to my aim.

I hope you have a great 2015 and do the things you love.

Love, Steph x
